Furnaces are complicated—and that means a lot of different things can go wrong. If your furnace isn’t running properly—too long, too short, or won’t start at all—here are some reasons why.
Do you hear the furnace click, but it doesn’t fire up? Your pilot light might not be lit.
Does your furnace cycle frequently? This can be caused by a variety of things, including a clogged filter, a bad thermostat setting, or setting the temperature too high or too low.
Is your fan running constantly? Your thermostat may not be working.
Does your furnace blower run continuously? The limit switch, which starts or stops the blower assembly, is probably malfunctioning. It’s basically stuck “open.” The limit switch also shuts down an overheated furnace. If it’s stuck “open,” it won’t shut down the furnace if it gets too hot.
