Air conditioning systems have lots of moving parts and pieces. Equipment malfunctions are therefore the root cause of many repairs. Here are some of the most common equipment problems.

Is your system blowing hot air? Is the evaporator coil freezing over? Has your home’s humidity increased? Does your system take longer than normal to cool your home? Is your home using a lot more electricity? These symptoms indicate your system’s refrigerant level is low—which means you most likely have a leak.

Is water dripping from your indoor unit into your house? This occurs when your condensate drain pan overflows. As your system runs, moisture from the air condenses along the evaporator coil and then drips into a drain pan below. If the pump breaks, the drain clogs, or the float switch malfunctions, the pan can fill with condensation and then overflow into your house.

Are your system’s air intakes not pulling air in? Is very little air flowing through your system? This may be due to a malfunctioning air handler. The air handler pushes air to be cooled and then into the ventilation system. If the air handler’s motor overheats or its blades are loose or bent, it can’t move air into the system.
