The installation crew will begin by protecting flooring with drop cloths or paper. Items that can’t be moved or heavy furniture located near the work area or access path will be protected with plastic.
The crew will shut off power to the HVAC unit, then remove refrigerant from the A/C system. They will then take the system apart and remove it.
If your ducts need to be repaired or replaced, some crew members will start this while the installation lead starts putting the new equipment together. Major duct work will involve crew members going through crawl spaces and attics.
Once the duct work is completed, the crew will install the equipment inside and outside per the manufacturer’s specifications. Typically this is an inside air handler or evaporator, thermostat, condensate drain lines, refrigerant supply lines, and an outside compressor.
Once the installation is complete, the crew will test pressure and vacuum, inspect the entire system, then charge the system with new refrigerant. Then they will run the system and retest everything.
Once all the testing is complete, your HVAC contractor will review how to operate the system and provide you with warranty information. They should also answer any questions you may have. Your new system is now ready to keep you cool!
